Online Incentive Programs Make it Easier to Motivate Your Employees
It’s difficult to believe that the first online incentive program in the United States took place a little over ten years ago and was created in 1995 for Merrill Lynch by TJT Motivation.
Today, you’d be hard pressed to find any program of significance that doesn’t have an online component. It’s hardly surprising; web-based programs are faster, more flexible, cheaper and offer more control than traditional incentive solutions.
In order for your online program to meet your employees’ expectations, I’ve outlined the following 6 steps.
Bottom Line: Follow these steps and you’ll have a winning online motivation program!

Step 1. Make sure your back-end system can handle an online program.
At TJT Motivation, we help you find the right technology solution so that your employees can browse through products quickly and effectively with no down-time.

Step 2. Know your audience.
Are they computer savvy? Do they have their own emails and can you gather all your employees’ emails? You’ll also need a database of emails and contact info in an Excel spreadsheet to execute a successful program. Make sure you know your audience demographic so a program can be designed for their specific interests.

Step 3. Determine what support material you need.
You may want the entire program online or you might want to print the award catalog as well to hand out at a sales meeting or conference to create a big bang. The most successful programs offer both an online and print catalogue.

Step 4. Design an effective communications system and use it!
Celebrate your online motivation program and the benefit for your company will multiply exponentially! Some examples include:

Launch Announcement: Send a personalized email to participants. Also, include an enrollment kit which outlines the program and contains all the tax implications of the awards.

Meeting: You need not only to announce the program but gather your team to secure support for the program.

Training: We help create a simple tutorial that helps the participants through the online redemption process.

Newsletter: Making periodic updates to keep everyone informed of the progress of the program improves overall results. Also, develop personalized updates! And, of course, celebrate the winners.

Step 5. Review prize delivery requirements
Once your employees redeem their prizes online, they’ll expect to receive them FAST! Before you launch the online motivation program, you’ll need to examine the geographic parameters of fulfillment. If you have international participants, make sure that your prizes can be shipped overseas. You may also want to set up a separate international section in your catalog for items appropriate to those countries.

Step 6. The Most Important One, KEEP IT SIMPLE.
If the program is too complicated, is not easily understood, and cannot be navigated simply, it will fail.
